چکیده
Abstract Introduction The success of minimally invasive parathyroid surgery is largely based on accurate preoperative localization adenomas. In the U.K, NICE guidance recommends either ultrasound scanning alone or combined with sestamibi scintigraphy to help guide surgery. recent past, surgeon performed (SUS) has been adopted in North America and Australia for a sensitivity 63–91%. This was equivalent superior radiology (RUS). comparison, data from U.K imaging sparse. this study, we investigate efficacy disease discuss its cost benefits. Methods prospective study collected November 2019 June 2021. All patients had primary hyperparathyroidism underwent MIBI, both. A single experienced all under general anaesthesia. intraoperative findings were used determine accuracy techniques. Results total 46 found have gland disease. categories were: Double (n=17), MIBI (n=34), RUS (n=22), SUS(n=46), no (n=9). sensitivities 58%, 55% 81% respectively. 8 ectopic glands not included analysis scans. Conclusion Surgeon by an provider effective localizing adenomas guides It could significantly reduce costs associated outpatient

Surgeon-performed ultrasound as preoperative localization study in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism.
BACKGROUND Minimally invasive parathyroidectomy is the treatment of choice for single-gland primary hyperparathyroidism. However, the exact location of the abnormal gland has to be established. Sestamibi scintigraphy, computed tomography and ultrasound (US) are commonly used modalities. We describe our experience in a non-academic center with surgeon-performed US (S-US) of the neck as preoperat...
متن کاملAccuracy of 2-Phase Parathyroid CT for the Preoperative Localization of Parathyroid Adenomas in Primary Hyperparathyroidism.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Minimally invasive parathyroidectomy requires accurate preoperative localization of suspected adenomas, and multiphase CT allows adenoma characterization while providing detailed anatomic information. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of a protocol using only arterial and venous phases to localize pathologic glands in patients with primary hyperparat...

Primary Hyperparathyroidism is a fairly common disease that is much more predominant in females. Treatment is surgery and includes removing the parathyroid adenoma or the hyperplastic parathyroid glands. Considering the difficulty of this operation procedure, localization test are utilized including ultrasound, MRI, CT scan, Thallium-Technesium subtraction scan, MIBI scan and a series of other ...
متن کاملLocation of Parathyroid Adenomas in Primary Hyperparathyroidism: Where to Look?
Purpose: Preoperative localization studies for parathyroid adenomas are very essential to perform minimal invasive parathyroidectomy (MIP) with decreased operative time and potential complications. Although most of these studies based on radiological imaging, intraoperative assessment provides the most accurate anatomical description of the location of parathyroid adenomas. In this study, we ai...
